Today’s 10 Questions featured guest is Matt Appling of The Church of No People. Along with blogging, Matt teaches in public education and is a pastor at Levi’s House in Kansas City, Missouri. He is the co-founder of Save Africa, a small organization with a big mission, whose goal is to bring the gospel to Sudan.
Thanks to Matt for participating. I hope you enjoy his answers as much as I did.
What is your favorite book?
That’s a tough one to narrow down. “The Great Divorce” is probably my favorite Christian book. “Animal Farm
” is probably my favorite non-Christian book. And Malcolm Gladwell is my favorite cultural author of today.
What is your favorite movie?
You’ll find a wide variety of movies on my shelf. If you pinned me down, I’d say “Stranger Than Fiction” is a recent favorite.
What is your favorite musical genre? Artist/group?
Again, I like lots of different things, but I think I actually have pretty poor taste in music. I have a special taste for jazz. I have lots of jazz records, because the only real way to listen to jazz in on vinyl. I’ve got lots of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. I’ve also got some of those goofy “loungy” records like “Satin Brass” that I like to put on at parties because it’s kind of funny to listen to.
PC or Mac? Why?
Macs are expensive. I may have purchased a Mac, but I already had my graphic design programs for PC, and I didn’t want to invest another $2000 to get the same programs. So PC it is. I’m very satisfied with Dell.
What is your favorite word?
Moist. One time, I took a stack of mini sticky notes and wrote “moist” on all of them and then stuck them all over the apartment. They were on the walls, on the faces in our photos, on the silverware. My roommate didn’t like that word, so he wasn’t too happy.
If you could do one job other than your current one for a day what would it be?
I’d be a food critic…and a movie critic. Nothing goes better than dinner and a movie, and critiquing them both.
Who has been the most inspirational person in your life?
My Dad is a pastor and he’s overcome a lot of adversity, conflict with others, and personal struggle, so I emulate him a lot.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
This too shall pass.
Who is the person you would most like to meet?
I’m a history buff, so there’s a lot. I’m especially interested in Presidential history. I think off the top of my head, I’d like to meet John Adams. That guy had his hands in virtually every part of the revolution, and yet he’s the most unsung hero.
What would you like to ask God when you meet him face to face one day?
“Can I come in?”
I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions, but if I get a positive answer to that first one, the rest won’t seem so important, as I’ll have quite a bit of time for discussion.
Great Stuff Matt. Thanks again for participating.
