Matt is the senior director of strategy for Desiring God and blogs at What’s Best Next. He resides in Minneapolis, MN with his wife and two children. His blog focuses on two things: (1) how to best manage our lives and work, and (2) how to best think about the way that the businesses and non-profits that we work for — and communities that we live in — should be led.
I hope you enjoy Matt’s answers and make sure that you visit Matt’s blog and check out all of the useful content.
What is your favorite book?
After the Bible, probably John Owen’s The Death of Death in the Death of Christ or Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology
. Or Edward’s (book-length) sermon Justification By Faith Alone
(except for a section near the end where he drops the ball). It’s a tough call, though, between those and a few others.
What is your favorite movie?
What is your favorite musical genre? Artist/group?
I like some classic rock and, on the more recent side, Coldplay, 3 Doors Down, U2, OneRepublic, Rascal Flatts, Josh Wilson, Matthew West.
PC or Mac? Why?
Mac. They value design and connect with the emotional side of human nature.
What is your favorite word?
I’m not sure!
If you could do one job other than your current one for a day what would it be?
Head up a non-profit devoted to solving large global problems for the glory of God.
Who has been the most inspirational person in your life?
John Piper and Ronald Reagan.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
When I was about 5 and my mom told me that you can pray anywhere. It’s obvious, but that made a huge impact at age 5.
Who is the person you would most like to meet?(Dead or Alive)
Martin Luther
What would you like to ask God when you meet him face to face one day?
I have a list. One of the first is: How do divine sovereignty and human accountability fit together? (This is in spite of Jonathan Edwards’ very helpful book The Works of Jonathan Edwards.)
