10 Questions with Shawn Smucker

Shawn Smucker is a blogger from Paradise, Pennsylvania where he lives with his wife and children. His blog explores “the meaning of identity and purpose, and how important it is to be doing AT LEAST ONE THING you are passionate about.  It’s also about book reviews . . . and top ten lists . . . and other silliness . . . but mostly concerned with identity and purpose.”

What is your favorite book?

Steinbeck’s East of Eden(two of my kids are named after characters from the book – Abra and Sam – I know, strange)

What is your favorite movie?

Heat – the classic portrayal of good v. evil in this film is stunning

What is your favorite musical genre? Artist/group?

Folk / Innocence Mission

PC or Mac? Why?

PC – I am not cool enough to pull off a white computer

What is your favorite word?

Indefatigable – i hope this describes me in my quest to discover my identity

If you could do one job other than your current one for a day what would it be?

Astronaut. Or professional soccer player (although I’m not in shape enough to be either)

Who has been the most inspirational person in your life?

My wife – the sacrifices she gladly makes in raising our four kids continually astounds me.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Most of it comes from Ann Lamotte’s book Bird by Bird, but one of my favorites is that “You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do”

Who is the person you would most like to meet? (Alive and/or Dead)

Dead- CS Lewis  Alive – John Irving

What would you like to ask God when you meet him face to face one day?

I know everything around me was supposed to reveal you to me, but why did you have to stay invisible all the time?
