10 Questions with Stan Rodda (Cultural Awakening)

Stan Rodda is a follower of Christ, husband, father, and campus pastor at New Life Christian Church. At his blog Cultural Awakening he discusses anything and everything related to culture. His blog allows him to explore culture and how it affects us all. His goal is not only to explore it but to see how it can be influenced and transformed. Transformed into something more, something better.

I hope you enjoy the answers that Stan gave as today’s 10 Questions Friday Feature. I know I did.

What is your favorite book?

My current favorite book is Untamed by Alan and Debra Hirsch.  It is a fascinating read on missional discipleship.  After the Bible, it should be required reading.

What is your favorite movie?

My favorite movie is The Book of Eli.  There is a lot of violence, so it’s not for every one.  But at the end and all the pieces come together, I believe there is a great message in it, on that Hollywood should be commended for.

What is your favorite musical genre? Artist/group?

I am really into whatever genre Indie music is.  I love the sounds of Regina Spektor, Jack Johnson and Oren Lavie.  I also really like Coldplay and The Fray.

PC or Mac? Why?

For a long time I was a big PC guy.  Then recently I started having so many issues with PC, that I gave Mac a try.  I now have an iPhone, a MacBook Pro and I’m waiting on someone to buy me an iPad.  Not for any particular reason, just because.

What is your favorite word?

I have multiple favorite words.  Can I please pick two?  Well, I’m picking two anyway.  My two favorite words are “Sweet” and “Fantastic.”  I say them all the time.

If you could do one job other than your current one for a day what would it be?

I would love to coach football.  If I had to pick a dream job outside of ministry, it would be on the football field.  Down in the dirt and mud with the guys, hitting shoulder pads, bleeding, sweating and winning as a team.  Nothing like Friday night lights in this world.

Who has been the most inspirational person in your life?

My father was the most inspirational person in my life.  I’m not sure what it was about him, but he had one of those personalities that seemed to draw people in.  He was fun to be around.  He was intelligent and I believe I am in ministry because of his influence.  He died at 41 years old in 1998.  I have never experienced a hurt like that in my life, but I know I will see him again some day.  He was the man!

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Two words: “Yes, dear!”

Who is the person you would most like to meet? (Dead or Alive)

I’m not sure this question can be answered in a line or two.  I am not even sure how to narrow that one down.  One inspirational person that jumps out at me is Rosa Parks.  Her courage and faith are mind boggling to me.  I would love to have 60 minutes to sit with her and learn from her.

What would you like to ask God when you meet him face to face one day?

Two loaded questions in a row.  I’m pretty sure when I meet God, I will forget everything I had ever wanted to ask anyway.  But if I were to be able to retain one question it would be something like, “Why?  Why love a bunch of misfits like us?  Why entrust your universe, your mission and your church to a bunch of screw ups like us humans?”  I think that is something that my finite mind will never fully comprehend this side of heaven.
