A Plan and the Ability to Get the Most Out of Life

I started out 2011 by posting some personal goals of mine.

One of those goals was to loose some weight. Forty pounds to be exact. I would love to loose more though.

It is one of the goals that is going to be difficult. probably the most difficult. It always want to exercise and loose weight, but when the time comes it is always I will start tomorrow. I do not have a plan, and game plans are so important when undertaking anything.

Growing up I was always in pretty good shape. I played sports in high school and in college and was always doing some kind of conditioning. Sometimes it even felt a little bit like torture.

When I got out of school I really wanted to just take a break from all the running, and lifting weights…bad move! It is so hard to get motivated to start back.

Let me tell you something fellas women are not the only ones to put on a few pounds during a pregnancy. I was the heaviest I had ever been when my son was born.

Now it is the end of winter and I need to really get rid of the extra pounds that I have put on, and start chipping away at my goal for the year and even try to surpass it.

So I had come up with a plan, and here it is:

Start tracking my calories. Michael Hyatt posted earlier this week about a program that he has been using called Lose It!. I signed up for it, and it is pretty awesome. Very easy to use, and it also holds me accountable because I do not want to fail and go over the colories set for the day.

Find a Weight Loss Partner. Enter my wife. Since she is the cook, most of the time this helps out. If she is dieting that means that I eat better. Having someone to work out with makes all the difference in the world. It’s all about staying motivated, and what is better than your wife rooting you on.

A Routine. The hardest thing about working out is getting in a routine. If you get in a routine you will more than likely stick with something. It is just getting the routine set that is the tough part. My wife and I have started walking/running/biking in the afternoon when we get home from work. It is really nice since it is warming up. We where able to take the bikes out yesterday. My son has a seat that goes behind me on my bike and he absolutely loves it.

Future. This is a big motivating factor for me. I want to be in good health when my son is growing up, and be able to be active with him. It is selfish of myself not to be.

Stay Motivated. This is a major reason that people stop working out and exercising. They just get bored with what they are doing. So my plan is to change things up  often so I do not get bored with repetition.

So the journey has begun for me to reach my better physical self, not only for myself but for those I love and care so much about. They are definitely worth it!

Do you currently have an exercise routine? What helps you stay motivated and keep it interesting?

I used to, lost motivation. In a couple of weeks I’ll start soccer again so I’ll have to definitely get on an exercise routine or I won’t be able to average my 3 goals per game!

That’s what you get for being a homerun hitter. Power. I’m sure if you put the same discipline into losing weight as you did in hitting you will make your goal. I am 6’5″ and right now weigh 212. I cycle and so my desired weight is around 200-205. This winter i did the elliptical at the Y and also lifted weights. It was the lifting that put on the pounds. Cycling season is just around the corner. I rode twice last week in about 60 degree weather but yesterday I rode in 38 degree weather. I have been blessed with a fairly fast metabolism (but it is slowing down now that I am in my late 50s). But I applaud you Adam. Do this for your son and wife but do it for yourself as well. You will feel better and have much more energy. Sorry I rambled.

I forgot the smiley face after Homerun comment. That was not a slam.

I had a routine, then got off of it. And I desperately need to get back on it. I’m thinking about starting again on March 1st. Of this year.

So hard to keep up with it. That is why I am trying to create something that I do not get bored with…or try at least!

That is a great plan. Good luck Adam!
I exercise in the early morning 3-4 times a week, but I need to get a handle on my diet. I’ve tried the LoseIt app before, and need to give it another shot.
