I love the work that Wayne Elsey and his team over at Souls4Soles are doing. If you have not heard of the non-profit, or are not sure what they do you should definitely check out their website because they are impacting lots of lives around the globe on a daily basis.
I chose this book after winning a giveaway that KC was doing over on his blog Some Wise Guy. I had recently read Start Something That Matters by Blake Mycoskie of TOMS, and this seemed really similar. I had heard of the book and it sounded like something that I would really like. Well, I did.
In the book Wayne tells us how he got the idea for Souls4Soles and how he has decided to run the company. He feels that is important to run nonprofits the way for profits operate. He thinks that if you do not have that mindset then you are destined to fail. That is why he looks to hire the best people and pay them competitive salaries comparable to the for profits.
His book is full of good points and the amazing stat that stuck out at me as a father is that 300 million children around the world are without shoes. That just breaks my heart. It is something that I take for granted. My son has several pairs of shoes…
So if your church is participating , or if you have shoes lying around maybe this is something that you should look into.
Anyway, this is a great book and must read for anyone looking into getting in the nonprofit business.
