Being a father is full of rewarding moments. Everyday I am thankful that God has allowed me to be a father.
The other day I had one of those moments when my son.
My wife wanted me to hang a picture of our family that we have had for a while, but have just had to put up on the wall. So I went to the back with my two year old son Bryce, who follows me around everywhere these days, to get the necessary supplies we would need for the job. I got what we needed and headed back to the living room, and my wife and I found the spot the picture needed to be hung. So I got the hammer and nail and put the nail in the wall and put the picture up then stepped back to take a look and make sure everything was centered and looked level. I called my wife into the room to get her approval and thought it looked good as well. Then out of nowhere my son who had been standing on the couch beside me watching me like a hawk shouts “yay daddy!”. Let me tell you. Never in my whole life have I ever felt more like a hero than right there in that moment.
When I was growing up, and still my dad was my hero. Someone that I wanted to be like someday. The way that he loves and takes care of the family is very inspiring. Growing up dad would always make sure that we had what we needed, and worked hard so our family could enjoy the things we had.
I hope that I can be the father to my son that my dad was to me, and still is. T0 know that if my son needs me that I will drop whatever I am doing to be there by his side. No matter if it means driving late into the night, crawling up under a house to fix something, or throwing hours of batting practice on a Saturday afternoon when he could have been doing anything else.
So dads be a hero to your children today. They look up to you.
Who has been an inspiration or hero in your life?

Awesome.
Today, you’re my hero.
Ha, Ha.
Awesome post Adam!
I love being a dad and moments when your kids cheer me on not even Chuck Norris could take me.
I here ya KC. It is the best! I love me some Chuck Norris jokes
My girls are now adults (35 & 31) and I still take pride they call me dad. My grandfather was my hero. Anyone but my dad.
Being a dad is a special thing that we all should cherish if given the opportunity.
Dad, grandmother, a coach, and several saints who kept the faith until their dying days.
I hear ya Matt. Those people are all very special.
Adam,
Those moments are precious. My dad is a hero of mine as he was always there when I needed him and like you, is still today. I count it and honor to have a dad who was always there for his son and I definitely want to be that dad for my 3 kids. Thanks for sharing.
Likewise Sean.
My grandfather, more so now after he’s passed I’m witnessing his legacy, and it’s inspiring.
Cool Ben. Awesome!
My dad is a hero to me…
Yeah. There are some special dads out there.
My sister was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 21. I’m 4 years younger than she is. It was the hardest thing my family has ever faced.
She braved that disease without flinching an eye. Even when her skin turned brown and hair all fell out due to the chemo. I would come to visit her and she would make ME laugh.
She’s been in remission for 13 years after receiving a bone marrow transplant. She went to college and studied to be a nurse. Now she works in Oncology helping others who are going through what she did and encouraging them by sharing her miracle story.
My sister is my hero.
Wow. That is great. I am sure she is lots of people’s hero!
thanks for sharing, adam. this was a great read.
my dad is my hero for sure – taught me a lot (and still does) about servant leadership, loving God, and just a true and honest relationship with our Father.
