Beyond Opinion by Ravi Zacharias

Ravi Zacharias, along with his global team composing Ravi Zacharias International Ministries have composed a book on of essays on various topics dealing with the subject of  apologetics. The book Beyond Opinion is broken down into three main sections as follows:

1. Giving an Answer

2. Internalizing the Questions and Answers

3. Living the Answers

Each of the three sections plays a major role in setting yourself up to be able to answer those difficult questions that Christians may have to answer. The first section deals with the groups of individuals that may actually come at you with the difficult questions. It covers topics from Atheism to Hinduism to Science and the problems facing today’s youth. This section gives you the foundation that you need on each of the various subjects. The second section deals with the questions that are actually behind the questions the individuals are asking. Encompassing the various challenges facing non-believing individuals. Then there is the third section. This final section is what I think that most Christians have the most problems with, which is actually living the answers that they are providing to non-believers. It challenges you to not just provide a beautifully well thought out answer to the tough questions, but to “practice what you preach” so to speak.

This being the fist book I have read on the subject of apologetics that I have read I was very excited to dive right into it when I received it. This book is very well done and gives you a wide array of topics of defending ones faith. It is almost like a cliff notes for apologetics. The book cannot be read through quickly though. Each section contains vast amounts of valuable information, to grasp it all in one time through would be a major accomplishment. Some of the sections I had to read a couple of time  just to get it all to sink in. Having gone through the book once and gaining so much from it, I feel if I were to re-read the book again in a month I would pick up on so much that I had missed. This is one of those books that should be a staple of one’s library and be read often.

Ravi Zacharias and his team I feel have come up with a book that should be a must read for Christians in today’s society when so much is in question. Ravi gives you a great book of essays  dealing with the various subjects of apologetics, and a challenge to live out your teachings. For if we do not live what we teach to others what mark are we making?
