Is an iPad a valuable tool for a blogger?
The iPad is essentially a larger version of the iPod touch. What sets it apart from the iPod is that it has a larger display. That is really it. It makes viewing and typing easier, but that is all.
However, I think a blogger can add the iPad to their blogging toolbox. For me it eliminates the need to carry around a lot of items. At my fingertips have a notebook, internet access, sketch pad, and books. I
Here are a few ways in which a blogger can utilize the iPad as tool for their blog:
- Reading their RSS Feeds: I stay up to date on other bloggers posts by following them from my iPad. I use a reader for the iPad called FeedlerRSS.
- Drafting Blog Posts: I draft blog posts, and with the Evernote app.
- Post and Edit Posts: Post new posts, as well as, edit drafts and older posts through the use of the WordPress app.
- Edit Photos – The iPad gives you the ability to edit photos that could be included in potential blog posts. The iPad has some great free tools available to assist in your photo editing.
- Mind Map – I do a lot of mind mapping of post ideas from the iPad. Great for generating post ideas off of other ideas.
- Checking Email – Check email on the go.
- Calendar – Check out your calendar and schedule you next post.
- Books – You can read your Kindle books or books your buy form the iBookstore. I love to keep books I reference a lot on my iPad so I can reference things quickly.
- Games – There are more and more great games coming to the iPad almost on a daily basis. A break is always good!
Those are just a few of the ways that I utilize the iPad as a blogger on a daily basis. I am finding more and more way to use it daily.

Just wanted to concur with your post!! I have an iPad and use it all the time for my blog and the related tasks. I find as you have that the more I use it, the more tasks I find to use it for. I must admit that while it’s useful it’s also loads of fun to use!!
One question though – what app do you use for mind mapping?
I use iThoughts.
Just started blogging from my iPad yesterday. I did four blogs at the gym and am loving the lack of distractions afforded me by the full screen apps. That little mail icon no longer pulls me away.
I am glad you are finding it as a good tool. What do you do your blog drafting in? Evernote?
