As I sit here and write this post the excitement of the upcoming college football season is brewing within me. Hearing the band play and the sounds of the crowd cheering and chanting. Yes college football is in the air. I am from the South and the South loves it some college football. I am not one of those doe hard fans, but I do really enjoy it and the atmosphere that surrounds it.
My team the Auburn Tigers are ranked #22 in the preseason AP Poll. Changes have been made and there looks to be some great talent that could take this team to the next level. They are always funto watch and I am sure this season will not be any different. The top 25 ranking means nothing, because at the end of the season the top 25 looks nothing like it did at the beginning. Anything can happen on any given day. There are certain to be monumental upsets and cinderella stories, what might have beens, and what if’s.
As much as I like the competition that come with rooting for your team. I enjoy the community aspect that comes along with the new season. Throughout the week you will get in touch with all of your friends and their families and see what the plans are for the game this weekend. You will begin to make plans…are we going to the game…who’s house are we meeting at…you bring drinks and I will bring chips and salsa. Then gameday comes; you are surrounded by your closest friends and family. How could life get any better. It is on those days that the love you share for each other and the team you are rooting on really brings you closer together.
This post has just got me thinking…why can’t us as Christians get fired up about going to church and worshiping God our creator draw this much attention and emotion? It is in essence the same thing. We are going to root on Jesus. For some reason though we find it tougher to do this. We should be ashamed. We should enter into every service that we go to with the excitement and enthusiasm we do as if we are going to see our favorite team play.
Just remember this football season… Am I giving God as much attention as I do this game? Am I as excited about fellowshipping with my Christian brothers and sisters in Christ as I am on gameday?
I love college football as much as the next person, but I love the Lord more.
No matter how little sleep you get that Saturday night, be excited come Sunday morning that you serve a risen Savior.
War Eagle! Enjoy your fellowship with friends and family at the game and at church.
Are your priorities in order? Who is your team and how do they look this year?

I must be from another planet. Is there a sport called football?
