Companies Giving Benefits for Loosing Weight

I recently read an article on companies starting to give out incentives for people to loose weight. It states that about one third of U.S. companies are giving out incentives to those who are getting healthier.

One of the companies noted that has one such program was OhioHealth. After noticing many of their employees where overweight the instituted a program to give employees pedometers and pay them for walking. They went on to note that the program has paid out over $377,000 in rewards.

I find this amazing that these companies are doing this. A third of U.S. companies at that. Recession? What recession?

I feel that if you want to take better care of yourself you should not have to have a company giving you more money to do it. If I where a company I would think the people in this program may be people that are not very self motivated. If they really wanted to be healthier they would have taken it upon themselves years ago to stop this problem. instead they are loosing weight for this program and are getting this money, but inevitably when the program is ceased or they get their money they will go back to their old ways and gain the weight back.i really hope these companies have some kind of p[policy that does not pay off the person for like six months. That way the person can show that they are at least going to adhere to the program they have put themselves on. it may even work better that if a person has signed up for the program and get the payouts they must be required to check in after six months after the payout. if they have gained weight back then they will be required to pay the money back. If they do not have the money to pay back at that point they will have their paycheck docked until the money has been re-payed or they can get back down to their weight they were at when they were paid out.

Just my thoughts. Just don’t know how it will work out. You have any thoughts?
