Creating a Blog Colophon

What is a colophon? Here is how Webster defines it: (with a blogger’s personal touch!)

col·o·phon (noun) – an inscription placed at the end about page of a book blog or manuscript website usually with facts relative to its production.

Today I am adding a colophon to the about page of my blog. One of the readers of Michael Hyatt’s popular leadership blog suggested it when he was putting together a list of what makes a great “About Page” (check out his here). I thought it was a good idea. It just lets people know what tools that you are using on the back-end and front-end of your blog production.

Personally, I really like seeing what tools others are using to produce their work. When I see someone using something that I have not  heard about I love to test it and add it to my system if I find it useful.

There are simple things that a colophon can do as well. Readers can see the products you are using and if they need help with a product or have questions about it they can come to you. You can even do posts about the different items that make up your colophon and link back to them on you about page.

I feel that is a simple feature for bloggers to let their readers know a little more about them and what makes the blog “tick”.

Here is my blog colophon:

I have added this to my About Page check it out there too!

Is there anything that I may have missed or could be worth adding?

Will you add a colophon to your About page? If you do link it back with a comment so I can check it out!

I’ve been debating it since reading that on MH – about your scheduling – have you tried the editorial calendar plug-in for wordpress? It’s amazing. Drag and drop rearranging, set authors, set time, etc.

No I haven’t tried it. Sounds interesting. i will have to take a look at it.
      Thanks for the tip!

cool – to use it once installed, use the “Calendar” link in your posts menu.

I’d be afraid to add a colophone because I can be so low-tech at times. For example, I use MS Paint for some of my graphics.

For quick simple edits. I still use paint too.
