Extraordinary Measure is a movie base on the book The Cure: How a Father Raised $100 Million–and Bucked the Medical Establishment–in a Quest to Save His Children by Geeta Anand. It is the story the Crowley family (Brendan Frasier & Kerri Russell) who have three children and two with the crippling genetic disorder known as POMPE. A disease that will ultimately result in the death of the children before their tenth birthdays. Facing this reality John (Fraiser) takes it upon himself to seek out help for his kids.
John and his wife raise money in the attempt to lure a scientist Robert Stonewall (Harrison Ford) who’s line of research deals with enzymes and the use of them to cure rare genetic diseases. After winning over the grump aging Stonewall he and John go into business together on a fast paced track to cure the disease that is killing his kids.
I felt this movie was very inspiring. The way the father John Crowley sacrificed all he had for the lives of his kids is heartwarming. Being a father I could not imagine having to face the daily reality that my child is slowly dying. Fraiser, Russell, and Ford do a great job of capturing their characters with passion, emotion, the determination you would imagine that the actual real life counterparts went through. This is a great uplifting family drama that I would recommend to all.
