A couple of months ago while flipping through channels trying to find something good on tv that wasn’t just plain trash or rediculous I stumbled across a show on A&E called Duck Dynasty.

The show is based on a family that runs a company called Duck Commander. The father Phil started the company years ago when his love for duck hunting lead him to create a duck call. The company is now ran by his son Willie and the rest of the family helps run the company as well.

What is great about the show is that it is clean and the whole family can sit around an watch it an not be worried that something inappropriate will happen.

Here are some of the reasons Duck Dynasty is a must watch at out house:

- Humor – The show is just funny. The way the family jokes with each other is priceless, and my wife and I both love a show that gets a good laugh out of you.
- Family – This is a show that shows a family that cares about each other and sticks together. In my opinion there are not many shows out there that families are portrayed as loyal to each other and caring.
- Clean – Like I said above you can watch this show together as a family and not worry about language or any other thing that many other television show throws at you for that matter.
- Prayer – At the end of each of the episodes it show the entire family sitting together at this large table with one of the family members praying. What other show does that.
- Fun – They run a multimillion dollar company but they are never too busy to have fun and to spend time with family.

I would like to than A&E for giving a show like this a chance and producing something that is for the entire family.

Have you had a chance to see this show? What do yo think?

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I went up to my parents house to pick up our son. He had stayed with my mom that day while we worked and he was ready to come home.

Anyway, we were sitting around talking and my son was playing with my parents dog Charly. My parents had two dogs up until a couple of months ago when they had to have their dog Happy put to sleep. My son had always loved Happy and Happy loved everyone!

Happy was a black lab mix that wondered up into the yard several years ago and was named Happy because that is exactly what he was. He was just happy all of the time. He would always greet you when you arrived at the house and just loved being an outside dog.

A couple of months ago my parents noticed that Happy was limping on one of his paws and took him to the vet to get it checked out. The news was not good. He had pretty advanced bone cancer and that his condition and bones would only continue to deteriorate. So with much pain they decided to put Happy down instead of making him live the time he had left in pain and agony.

Back to sitting around talking with my family…

We were sitting their when my son stops playing with Charly and asks, “Where is Happy?”

We told him that Happy had died and had gone to heaven. You could tell his mind was churning at our response to him. We had told him right after it had happened that Happy had died and gone to heaven, but he really did not bring it up after that.

So we sat there watching his little mind churn…

Then he asks with childlike wonder and faith, “God called Him?”

Wow, I know to him he was relating God actually calling Happy as we would a dog and Happy running to Him, but there is so much that my sons questions makes you think about.

Such as God calling home those that have died; hearing well done my good and faithful servant.

My son is three years old and never ceases to amaze me with some of the things he says and I love it. I love seeing God move in him.

I love seeing my sons childlike faith as he continues to find truths in this world!

Have your children ever wowed you in this sort of way? Please share in the comments.

I first heard about Bob Goff through his good friend Donald Miller’s blog. So I knew that if Donald Miller thinks highly of this man I should definitely give his book a read. When I saw his book titled Love Does appear as one of the titles available for review through the Booksneeze program I knew I had to read it.

Having now completed the book I now know why Donald Miller thinks so highly of his friend Bob Goff. This man loves God and others and lives his life to the fullest.

In Love Does Bob takes you through his life and basically tells you how he go to where he is today and the story filled with whimsy that he is trying to live.

The book is filled with wonderful stories from Bob’s life that he extracts awesome truth’s from. Truth’s that will rock you to the core of your being making you want to live a story and experience life the way Bob does.

This is one of the best books that I have read all year. It is one of those titles that I will go back to over and over because of its uplifting and motivating content.

With this book Bob makes you want to take on life and live it to the fullest full of faith, love, and whimsy!

Going to college was my first time living in a big city. Where my wife and I met and are from is definitely small town USA. Upon completing college I decided that I would be staying in Birmingham, AL to start my next chapter of my life. It had a lot of firsts for me in it was the place my wife and I lived after we got married, where we bought our first house, where we had our son. We made great friends and had some fun times.

Then we started wanting the country life again. The life that we had spent so many years taking for granted. We decided to move back to our home town almost a year ago now and I have realized that there are five things that I love about living in rural America that I could not get from the city life.

Quiet – In the city there is a constant barrage of sounds. The constant sound of cars and sirens leave you any time for peace and quiet. In the country you can go out at night and all you hear is nature. I find that both soothing and comforting.

Familiarity – In the city you come across people on a daily basis that you will never see again. You run into people that you know while out and about very seldom. In a small town you see people you know a lot more often.

Room to Roam – My grandmother has some land that I grew up roaming when I was younger and now that I am back I get to share that with my wife and son. We did not have a place that we could take in the outdoors in the city that is quiet like this.

The Pace – In the city it felt as life was in fast foreword and everything was go-go-go. In the city I find that our pace of life is a lot slower and a lot more laid back. I like that…I like that a lot!

Sunsets – The sunsets when you are outside out in the country are second to none. With little obstructions from the full picture of God’s handiwork is amazing.

Don’t get me wrong living in the city definitely had its perks as well. We will miss such things as: countless forms of entertainment, friends, our first house, our co-workers. Living in small town USA is a new yet familiar chapter in our lives that we are loving more and more every day.

I have seen this video pop up several time on Facebook and blogs the past couple of weeks. Every time I see it I wish I would have thought to do this with my son. When we have another child we definitely will!

What gets me about this video is how fast children age. It seems like just yesterday my son was born and now he is three years old going on sixteen. Another thing that fascinates me is the girls mannerisms and attitude changes as she ages. In some of the pictures it seems like she is thinking “why are we still doing this.” She does not understand it now but her parents are creating something pretty cool.

If you haven’t seen this video yet you should definitely check it out. If you have, you need to watch it one more time.

Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages, has brought together a nice little devotional for husbands and wives to go through together. The book titled Life Promised for Couples offers daily boosts of encouragement speaking life into coupled relationships as they go through the journey that is marriage together.

The book is wonderfully done and beautifully designed. My wife and I really enjoyed each day as we made our way through each day of the books devotionals. One of the great features of the book, in my opinion, is the scripture verses that are included with each day’s devotion. They represent affirmation of the scriptures and how God planned and designed the way marriage and relationships should be.

I highly recommend this book to any couple that is looking for a devotional to go through with their spouse. No matter what stage of marriage you are currently in you will be able to relate to this book. Dr. Gary Chapman knows love and relationships as good as almost anyone and delivers another top notch title on the subject.

Have you gone through amy devotionals with your spouse that you would like to share?

I received this book in return for a review of my own personal opinions. For more information please see my disclosure policy.

A little over a month ago I was at the house and my wife and I were sitting in the living room watching tv. Our son was sitting in the room with us playing.
Our son gets up an heads back to his room. I think he is going back to get more toys to play with.

A while goes by…

So I get up and tell my wife I am going to check on our son and see what he is up to. So I head back to the room to see what he is doing.

I creep back there to just get a peak of what he is doing. He is sitting down looking through one of his picture Bibles. I softly, trying not to startle him, ask him what he is doing. His response puts new meaning to “faith like a child.”

His response to me was…

“I am looking for God.”

Wow. I am sitting watching a meaningless tv show and my son, who is three, is looking for God. It really made me look at myself and ask myself when the last time I looked for God.

He is all around us if we just take the time to look. That night I saw God in the loving head of a three year old. I cannot be more happy that the three year old is my son.

When is the last time you looked or God? Or seen His acts around you?
