Games I Played As a Kid

As I watched my son play this weekend I thought back on the games that I used to play as a kid. I loved being outside when I was younger and still do. My son is the same way which is awesome. He literally cries when we make him some inside. he is only one, but it is already obvious he loves playing outside more than inside.

I just hope that he keeps this as he ages. Most kids these days would rather sit inside and play video games than to go outside and use their imagination and enjoy God’s wonderful creation. I feel bad for those kids because they really do not know what they are missing out on.

The following are the games (all outdoor) that I used to love when I was a kid:

  1. Cops and Robbers – My brother and cousins used to spend hours playing this. We would have fake guns. And who could forget those those fake handcuffs… we would feel like Houdini when we escaped imprisonment. I would always want to be the robber though. I liked being able to escape and trick my brother and cousins. being a couple of years older I would always find a way to outsmart them.
  2. Bike Races – I was involved in some epic bike races as a kid. We would create some of the craziest tracks and jumps, it’s a wonder we did not kill ourselves.
  3. Wiffle Ball – There is nothing better than creating a Wiffle Ball field and having to good old fashion Wiffle Ball Tournament. We never had enough players, but who can forget the good old “ghost man”.
  4. Building Forts – My brother, cousins, and myself  loved going to my grandmothers house and building forts. We would tear down sticks and find fallen trees and create great forts. We would be so proud of our forts. They would end up being our prison in cops and robbers most of the time.
  5. Hide and Go Seek – Ny grandmothers house was on a farm with barns and stuff so when we went there hide and go seek was a game that we would always play. There where just so many great places to hide. We would play this for hours.

Those are just some of the top games. There are others that growing up in the country that will probably be elaborated on in another post on another day (i.e King of the Hay Bail and Cow Manure Wars).

Wow, brings back great memories… I cannot wait to make new memories with my son in the great games from the outdoors.

Again, I just feel sorry for all of the kids that spend their entire you couped up indoors playing video games. They are missing out on some great times. I will never regret all the time that I spent outdoors when I was a kid, only to come in to eat….

Great times…

Did you have any outdoor games you loved as a kid?
