This is the first post in going though the areas that I look to better myself in over 2012 that will continue to grow into the future.
I grew up in church and have always known right from wrong (not that I have always chosen right). My parents played a major part in my faith. They always had my brother and I at church on Sunday morning, Sunday, and Wednesdays no questions asked. We also were at every Bible School for every year that I can remember and revivals (when I gave my life to the Lord).
As a parent now I can respect what they did and the foundation they laid for me growing up. It truly is a commitment that they had to make to not only have us at church, but to live the faith and lives while it was not a Sunday.
As I look on to 2012, I look to grow the faith that I had laid all the years that I have been in church. To explore deeper truths and a deeper relationship with my Father in Heaven. There several areas that I want to grow in that will increase and grow my faith. In doing this I hope to become a better follower of Christ, husband, father and friend.
Here are the ways I am going to use to take my faith to the next level:
- Bible: I aim to spend time in the Bible daily. If only to read and explore a few scriptures that day. What I am not going to promise is that I am going to read the entire Bible this year. I have tried it and it ends up being to overwhelming. Instead I will continue to work though the Bible at my own pace and try to take something from what I read on a daily basis.
- Prayer: I think a big part of growing my faith is to spend more time in prayer. To take my worries and trouble to the foot of the cross.
- Pray Together: A couple of years ago my wife and I started praying together nightly before we go to bed. It did not have to be elaborate long prayers, but just a time to go to God as a couple united in faith to our Father in Heaven. Over the past few months since our move and life throwing us curves we have not been doing this as much as we would like. We must make this a point to do this daily.
- Church: Stay involved in our church. Go regularly immerse ourselves in worship and the Body of Christ.
- Seek Out: I want to seek out ways to show the love of Christ as much as possible. Whether it is at my place of work, with friends, family, or just out and about I want people to see something different about me that reflects my love for God and His love for me. With this I have ideas of ministries I would like to explore and possibly start up in the future. I am praying about this and seeing what the Lord leads.
Those are the areas I am going to work on growing my faith starting this year that will propel the growing of my faith into the future. I am sure more way to grow my faith will arise and I will explore them as they arise, but for now that is what is on my heart.
So pray for me as I look to grow this year and into the future!
What are things that you have done to grow your faith? I would love to hear what has been successfully for you in the comments!

Daily time in God’s Word is one of the keys for growing my faith. I think it’s also important to be in Christian community through church and through a small group.
Love my church family. I agree with you.
What translation of the Bible do you read?
A few months ago I started a routine of getting out of bed earlier than usual and spending time in the Word and in prayer. I don’t do it all the time – sometimes I’m pretty lazy, but I have found that in those moments I am able to be alone in His presence and learn from Him. It’s been great and I recommend it, even if not in the morning. Just spending time in God’s presence, listening and reading and having a conversation makes your faith stronger.
I have found that getting up earlier has been working for me. I do not do it every day, but a few times a week. It really gets the day started off on the right foot.
Good stuff Adam, looking forward to following you on this one and learning more here. That is an excellent focus list you have!
This year I’m focused on learning more about “believe.” I’m going to post a monthly update on my journey.
Look forward to reading your progress.
I am going to try to do updates on my goals every quarter or so…
