Having the Courage to Put Yourself Out There

I have been blogging for about a year now, and I have seen the traffic coming through The Daily Walk grow pretty steadily. I wish I could drive in more traffic, but for starting from scratch, not knowing anything about blogging, I am pretty pleased with what I have done so far. I constantly looking for new ways to promote the blog and get the site noticed.

That being said…

Of all the ways that I could put my blog out there, I have not used the way that could get my blog out there the most. I want to grow the blog, but I have not told friends and extended family about it. My wife and mom know about it, but that is it.

There is one major reason why I have not told those that know me best about my blog. I am just self conscious. I am worried what they will think of my writing, the content, or even that I blog.

Then I think, what if friends and family like what I am doing and are interested in it. What if some of them have wanted to blog, but have had no motivation and I could have been that little push.

Telling friends and family would grow my blog tremendously. One way that I could accomplish all of this is to just link my blog to Facebook. I have hundreds of friends and family on there. I could set up a plugin that would update my feed when I publish a new post, and that would expose my daily blogs to that many more people. I have just not got up the courage to go for it though.

Maybe one day in the near future I will, or maybe I will not. I really honestly cannot say. Right now I just do not have the courage to put it out there in that way. So for the time being I will continually try to come up with better content and improve my writing.

Did you struggle with letting those that know you best know you are a blogger?

The best part about my friends knowing is they can keep me in check as to what I write in real life. There is no hiding behind the walls of the net with them now.

Go for it man, if this is your daily walk than they should be seeing you live it in real life anyway.

God bless and happy Turkey Day

I have no qualms about telling friends and family about it. I seriously doubt they care but I tell them anyway. :P AND I DON’T DO FACEBOOK! will I? probably not. I am on the computer at the office enough to fill me for the day and i don’t want to waste my time at home doing endless chatter. Just my .02 worth.

Being a pastor I struggled with publicizing my blog because I wasn’t sure how people would respond to it. It was awkward at first but I am glad that I overcame that fear. :)

I did at first because I felt lame that they were providing all the comments (my family). But pretty soon I noticed some great feedback. Now I run blogs by them occasionally before hitting “publish.” Plus I’ve found even casual friends on Facebook have been reading my blog…and they LIKE it! I’m amazed…

I still don’t link up all my Church Stage Design Ideas posts because I don’t know that they’d be interested in getting those each day…I’m not sure if that’s a good idea or not…

Yeah I know how you feel. It really takes a lot of courage just to put yourself out there. Even if it is through your writing on a blog…

      Thanks for sharing Jonathan.
