Is Your Blog the Metrodome?

The metradome roof collapse as seen above was incredible. The owners had to be completely overwhelmed.

Then I began to look at it from the perspective of a blogger and a blog owner.

The collapse from a bloggers perspective is like this. Say the metradome is like your blog. Stand alone it is perfect. It serves the purpose for which it was made. You blog out of the box does what it was created to do with speed and efficiency.

Then along comes the snow. It begins to add up. The resulting weight becomes unbearable. This resulting in a structutal failure leaving the owners of the metrodome trying to figure out where to go next.

You may ask, how does this relate to my blog?

My answer is this. The snowflakes are like the plugins you add on to your blog. A few, trusted plugins, in my opinion ok. Like the snowflakes on the roof of the dome, when plugins add up on your blog they begin to cause complications. They begin to slow the load speed and open the door for possible hacker attempts. So the less you use plugins the better off you will be.

Is your blog the metrodome with plugins adding up?

Do you trust plugins? If so, which ones do you use and why?

I hope my blog isn’t the Metrodome. I have about 10 plugins but I think my site loads relatively fast. A few of my favorites are Digg Digg (social sharing), Disqus (comments), Efficient Related Posts (add’l in-site traffic), Thank Me Later (commenter follow-up), WP Touch (mobile browsing).

Thanks for sharing Tony. I am looking into adding a Thank Me Later Type plugin to my blog.

Have you been pretty pleased with it?
