Life is Full of Choices

Choices. Choices. Choices.

Think about how many decisions that you make in a day?

  • What to wear.
  • What to eat.
  • What to say.
  • What to read.
  • What to watch.

The list could go on and on couldn’t it?

It is amazing how much we have to take in process analyze and make a decision on during a day. Let alone, a week, a month, or your life.

There are several choices that I  have made in my life that I have made over my life that I would consider big, and place me where I am today.

  • Baseball – I chose baseball as my sport of choice when I was younger and I worked hard at it. It gave me the opportunity to go to college on a baseball scholarship.
  • Talk to the Girl – I got up enough courage to talk to my wife when I was a Junior in high school. I had always been big into sports and had never dated or really had a girlfriend. So there was this girl, she was amazing, and I am so glad I got up enough courage to talk to her. I am so glad I married my high school sweetheart. She is the best. I definitely married up!
  • College – The was lucky enough to have scholarship offers to multiple colleges, but the one I ultimately chose over all could not have been a better choice. I grew as a man there and made friend that will last a lifetime. I also had a coach that was more like a father figure and pastor than a baseball coach.
  • Not go Play in the Minors – After graduating I decided not to go play minor league baseball. I had a couple of offers and it would have been great, but I did not want that lifestyle. The ability to play catch with my son one day is worth far more than to have gone and played pro ball and blown out my shoulder again and never have had that opportunity. So I chose not to go, and I have no regrets.
  • Work – After graduating from school I started working for the company that I still work for today. It is run by great Christian men that care about each employee and their families. I am glad I made the choice to work for them.
  • Eternity – The most important decision though that I have ever made was to become a Christian. To admit that I am a sinner and that I want to spend eternity with my Heavenly Father.

Those are some of the most important decisions that I have ever made. I have no regrets for making any of them.

What are some of the most important decisions that you have ever made that have shaped you into who you are today?

going to grad school instead of taking the job offer I had after undergrad. Took me to Illinois, where I met Jesus AND my wife. And where I somehow wrangled a PhD out of that school. That’s come in handy a few times.

I prayed and God gave me the perseverance to push through resistance when I first started playing guitar. Now, I have started the worship ministry for my youth group. Glad I didn’t give up when it got hard and others told me I wasn’t good enough…

Good for you Brandon. Glad you persevered. You should definitely throw up some You Tube videos of you jamming!

Marriage is a lot better than going under the knife. I can attest.

Leave and Cleave. Coming to ATL and moving my family has definitely been the toughest, but most rewarding choice I’ve made. I’ve grown as a Husband, a Father, but most importantly a Son.

Love the choice for Eternity. Sweetness.

Glad you decided to make the move bro.

    1. Choosing not to play basketball my senior year in college and concentrate on my new marriage and studies.

    2. To accept God’s call to be a pastor. In over 38 years I have not regretted it.

    3. To give up to be with my girls as they grew up. to still be called “dad” and kissed and told “I love you” is the ultimate.

    4. To finally give up playing “hard on the body” sports and get into cycling fully. I should have quit years before.

    5. To accept God’s call to pastor the church I am right now.

    6. To marry the woman I did almost 38 years ago.

    7. To follow jesus.

Sorry the list is so long Adam. But…you started it!! :)

    1. Taking a job at a small country church and moving 4 hours away for college.
    2. That led to me meeting my wife. She’s mad cool. Love her.
    3. After college I went back to my home church which was my dream job.
    4. Leaving my dream job to go to seminary.
    5. Eating at Chipotle while in seminary. I now eat there once a week. It changed my life for the better.
    6. Finishing seminary in two years (193 credits) so that I could be a part of a new church plant.
    7. Working at my new dream job.
    8. Starting a blog.
    9. Going through with IVF in order for my wife to get pregnant. That has led to our twins which are 7 weeks old and are radically changing out lives. Love em.

To take a job where eventually a person there introduced me to Jesus

To ask my wife to marry me

    To have children

To say yes to opportunities in Church

    To love

To say no to certain opportunities that would have turned to sin

    To stay in the fight

To buy a Mac (yes, they are the best)

To burp the alphabet (yup, coolest trick ever)

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:42 am #

To buy a Mac for me has been life-changing!

Love these kind of post and hearing peoples journeys and stories, especially when you see the choices they make and the results.

Some of my biggest choices recently have had to do with courage. Decisions to step forward and do the very thing that I know I need to do. Recently I just got an apartment and it was a tough decision on choosing the right one. that was a big decision.
Another one was moving to Nashville. Which is still the best decision I have made in a while.

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:43 am #

Glad things are working out for you Kyle. I remember getting my first apartment. Stressful times…

    1. To chose one university over another
    2. To ask my wife to marry me
    3. To wait until after she graduated to get married (I feel that set a solid foundation in a lot of ways)

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:44 am #

I waited for my wife to graduate as well. I think it was a very good decision.

  10. ThatGuyKC May 19, 2011 at 12:26 pm #

Sounds like you’ve made some really solid and successful choices. Nice work.

Definitely agree with you on playing catch with my son. Few things compare.

    Big choice in my life?
Dating then marrying a single mom. Becoming a husband and dad in one fell swoop was a little intimidating, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve grown up a lot and become a better man for it.

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:45 am #

Yes. I do not know what I would do if I did not have the opportunity to throw a ball with my son…

  11. Ricky Anderson May 19, 2011 at 1:11 pm #

Choosing to take my walk with Christ seriously.

Choosing to get out of debt.

    Choosing to marry my wife.

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:46 am #

      All great choices my friend.

  12. Jon May 19, 2011 at 5:10 pm #

    1. Choosing the university that I did go to.
    2. Let go of what others wanted me to do, and clinging to God’s promises.
    3. Deciding to check out another church other than the one I grew up in.

…I’m kind of in this transition period so I feel a lot of big decisions in the near future.

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:47 am #

I love #2. SO often we do what others want us to do, and neglect God. Love that one, and glad you made that choice!

  13. chris vonada May 19, 2011 at 6:07 pm #

    Adam,

Probably the biggest choice ever for me was pretty simple really… to overcome my dreaded habit of indecision!

    Great post!!

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:47 am #

      Indecision. I feel ya man!

  14. seekingpastor May 19, 2011 at 11:08 pm #

Becoming an adoptive parent. What a blessing!

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:47 am #

Something my wife and I hope to be as well!

  15. David May 20, 2011 at 1:51 pm #

    1. Begin a relationship with Christ.
    2. Randomly introduce myself to this girl I thought was hot…she’s now my wife.
    3. Head to Louisiana for Hurricane Katrina Relief – this propelled me into fulltime ministry.
    4. Pursue fulltime ministry even those that’s not what I studied in college.
    5. Go back for my Masters Degree
    6. Have kids.

    *Those are in chronological order.

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:48 am #

      Sweet list man. Great stuff!

  16. Alex Humphrey May 21, 2011 at 9:11 pm #

Wow, Adam. That was epic. It has me thinking about the choices that brought me here.

I chose Eternity when I was very young, and I am so greatful that He has given me sonship.

I, also, got up the nerve to talk to my wife. What an amazing moment it was. Our relationship is the first really good relationship I have ever been in and it lead to a wonderful marriage! How I love my wife!!!

There are many more. My decision to go to community college, the choice of church, etc. It’s something I need to spend more time thinking about.

    • Adam May 31, 2011 at 7:49 am #

Thanks for the compliments man. A promised Eternity is such a blessing.
