Before the World Cup, currently taking place in South Africa, I have to say that I was not a fan of soccer at all. Matter of fact I would have to say I was probably soccer’s worst critic. I mean come on guys running around for a couple of hours kicking a ball around with only a couple of goals ever getting scored. Not to mention that you can end in a tie. Who does that?
Anyway this past Friday I watch the United States play and I was totally drawn in to the match. I don’t know if it was the horns putting me in a trance but I was totally sucked in to the game. I caught myself getting anxious and excited. What a game to watch too. I mean the drama. The U.S. coming back from that deficit and scoring the game winning goal late in the game only to have it taken away on a lousy call.
The World Cup is kind of like the Olympics for soccer. You can’t help but to root for your guys.
Now I find myself here wanting more soccer, and loving coming back from behind in a game so that it can end in a tie. This coming from the guy that said that he hoped his son never played soccer so he would not have to go to one of those boring events.
So I have come up with some reasons you should watch soccer also:
- There is a lot more strategy involved than you initially think.
- These guys are brutal. It’s a pretty rough sport.
- You always feel that you are right on the verge of seeing a all out brawl.
- The acting is Oscar worthy. I mean watch the way some of these guys go down. Its hilarious!
Oh wait…. The U.S. is playing gotta go… Need the big win to move on!
