I was blessed with the opportunity of being a parent on February 13, 2009 when my son Bryce was born.
Being a parent is amazing, and an amazing responsibility. If you are not a parent you finally understand everything your parents were telling you when they said, ” wait until you have kids.” True is, they new what they where talking about.
Being a parent truly is a huge responsibility, because I am not only having to care for myself and my wife anymore, but our son as well. It is not something that can be taken lightly and I hope I never do.
Bryce is at the age now where he is like a little sponge taking in anything and everything. I just pray daily that I will instill in him the Godly morals and values that my parents instilled in me over the years and that he will always strive to do what is right and love others as God loves us.
Another thing I have realized from being a parent is that you should never say that you are never going to allow your kid to ______. (Watch Movies in the car, have a pacifier, have a bottle in bed, etc.) You fill int he blank. I have learned that you really do not know what you will do until you are a parent in that situation.
Being a parent also let you do kid things again that you had long done away with. My son enjoys playing with balls. I never knew that a ball could be so entertaining. From throwing it and catching it, tossing it up in the air and letting it hit you in the head, throwing it for the dog and chasing him after it, hitting it with a bat, hitting it with a golf club, throwing it in the trash, who new all the possibilities a simple ball could hold for a 20 month old.
Truth be told…there is never a dull moment when you are a parent. You never know what to expect from one day to the next. Just when you think you have something figured out…you find out you do not. Luckily I have a great wife who is a great mother. Together I belove we can figure anything out. She is great.
Being a parent is great and I would not trade it for the world. There is no better feeling that to hear “daddy” come out of his mouth and to see him come running after being in day car all day, or having him curled up asleep while you are holding him.
I truly am blessed, and am loving every minute of being a Dad and a husband!
