Pastor’s Thoughts on MMA

I came across this video from Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church last week. Mark did the clip for Fighting Politics that is a film that has been put together by Media Fly Films, revolving around one of mixed martial arts most controversial stories dealing with Matt Lindland.

I found Mark’s comments very interesting. Mark feels that by nature men are fighters and protectors and have always been that way It is just the way that God wired us. 

I have been a fan of MMA for about 5 years. I am a Christian and I do not feel that there is anything wrong with the sport. In fact if is was not for the sport some of the guys that are competing may have resorted to fighting on the streets. Sure, there are some of the guys in the sport that have made unwise decisions and have ended up in the media making a bad name for the sport.

Think about this though… Aren’t we as Christians the same way? There are Christians that have done things wrong and brought a ton of bad media on Christians and Christianity.

So we cannot just put the sport down because of one or two individuals that have made poor decisions.

I think that there is no problem with this sport, as long as the competition kept in a controlled setting.

I commend Mark for speaking out on this subject and love his thoughts on it. Enjoy!
