How radically do you follow what the Bible teaches us about what God asks of us to do as followers of Him?
That is what the book Radical by David Platt asks the readers. Americans have got so caught up in chasing the American Dream. We selfishly pursue the things of this world: money, fame, and power. We lose sight of the purpose for which God placed us here on this Earth. That is to spread the word to everyone. To bring praise to His name. Instead we want to make as much as we of ourselves when we should be making it all about God. Give God the glory for all of you accomplishments. For without Him gifting you with the talents and abilities that He did none of us would be where we are today. God will put you in situations where His glory can be seen. That is the way He wants it. He wants people to see the power he possesses, and He wants us to proclaim that power to the world.
The book of Acts paints a beautiful picture of what the church and its congregation should be doing. The church must spread the word of God with a passion, and not just be a place for congregating on Sundays. The church must build up its members with the necessary tools to go out into the streets of their towns and unto every corner of the world spreading the Gospel. If we do not go to these people how will they ever hear about this God that send His Son to die for them so that they may have the choice to live for eternity? Spreading the Word is not a choice it is a requirement if you are a follower of God! We where created by God with a much bigger responsibility than ourselves, one that can only be done through having the Spirit of God within us.
Radical is a very challenging book. It really requires a lot of self examination and a lot of the time you may not like what is revealed. I know I didn’t. It lays out on the table what God requires of you as a follower of Him. Not request, but requires. Things that He called each and every one of us to do. Not just a few with the rest of us being exempt.
I feel this book has pushed me to take a deeper look into my faith and to really dive into the Word of God. To seek out what I am in the Body of Christ and to make sure that I am doing all I can for the Kingdom of God.
This was a very good book. One that I highly recommend all to read. If your looking for a book that will stir up emotions inside of you and challenge you as a Christian at the same time this book is definitly one that you need to check out. You will not be disappointed.

Have you had the opportunity to read this book? In what ways did it challenge, or speak to you?

I just picked up this book myself (as well as Radical Together and a couple others – yay Borders closing sales? =D), and am absolutely loving it. It’s speaking out some of the things that I’ve already been mulling over in my own studies, and is helping me point out exactly what’s missing in my own walk with Christ.
Glad you enjoyed it, what else is on your reading list?
I read the book a couple months back. For me, had it’s highs and lows, but overall what I took out: it’s about Christ. No matter what we’re doing/experiencing/talking about … it’s about Christ. The End.
I am reading it now and i LOVE it. Ranks up there with crazy love with my all time favorites and suggested MUST read for christians.
Good review of the book. I read it last year and it didn’t impact me as much as it seems to have others. It might be that I read it after reading and being blown away by Crazy Love by Francis Chan.
What I liked about the book is that he gave practical application. Most books fail at that. I still remember the challenge to read through the Bible in a year, live in community, give sacrificially, and go on mission.
