Searching for God Knows What by Don Miller

I recently finished reading Searching for God Knows What by New York Times best selling author Don Miller (Blue Like Jazz, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years). This book opens y0ur eyes to the true meaning of who Jesus was and what God ultimately wants in His relationship with us. He illustrates to us how religion is relational and how God wants a relationship with us. He further explains that Christianity cannot be explained in steps or a list of ideas, but in a relational mindset that will allow you to love God as your Father instead of what a list of ideas are telling you he is.

What I found fascinating about this book is that Don is completely honest. He admits he has faults and still has questions, but he is totally in a relationship with His loving father in Heaven. He is able to convey the meaning of the Bible in a way that shows us the beauty of God that loves us dearly that we can never truly comprehend. We often try to comprehend God and Jesus by relating them to things that feel comfortable to us, but as Don says this is not what we should be doing. We should accept him for what the Gospel says he is and not try to make him into a false idol of who we want him to be. It shows us that Jesus did not just go to the rich and prosperous people, but went to the streets and carried on relationships with sinners. People we would often have nothing to do with and often judge.

In Searching for God Knows What Don captures you from the very first page form his everyman writing style that everyone can understand and relate too. In this book he has totally open my eyes to the true meaning of the Gospel. This is a great book and one that requires you to look into yourself and your beliefs and evaluate yourself and your relationship with God and those around you. In this book Don gives you really deep theological information in an easy to read style. I loved it and cannot wait to get my hands on another one of Don’s books!

Have got a chance to read this book? What did you think?
