I recently finished reading Kirk Cameron’s autobiography titled “Still Growing.” I found it to be a really good insight into his life and what kind of struggles he had being an atheist, a christian in Hollywood and things he continually has to work on.
A List of things that I was able to take from this book:
1. The Lord can convict you at any time. He will find you in His own time.
2. God has a plan for everyone if we just trust in Him and let Him guide our lives.
3. God alone can fill every void in our lives.
4. Marriage is a covenant. Kirk did not get a prenuptial agreement with his wife before they got married. Instead he said that marriage is not a contract like most people think of it as. Something you can just get a lawyer and get out of. Which is the way that most in our society today think of it as (lots of celebrities). Instead, marriage is a covenant before God that you will honor by faith and commitment.
5. Don’t Give in to be Accepted. Kirk Cameron stood up for and is continuing to stand up for what he believes in. He stood by his faith in the making of “Growing Pains” no yielding to make everyone happy. Instead, he did what would honor God. He is continually doing this today in the movies he makes (Left Behind Series and Fireproof), and through his show on how to witness that is being broadcast on numerous Christian networks.
6. Be passionate about God.
Those are just of a few things I was able to take from the book and though overall it was a good insight into Kirk Cameron’s life. His earlier years kind of jumped around, but when he got to where he accepted Christ and got married it really gave you the feeling and sense that he is passionate about theses subjects.I would recommend this book to all, and yes it did make me want to watch all of the “Growing Pains” episodes all over again….
