Stuff Christians Like by Jonathan Acuff

I recently finished reading a great book by popular Christian blogger Jonathan Acuff. The title of the book is Stuff Christians Like, which is based on his very popular blog by the same name. Some  of the material in the book can be read on the blog, but he did insert some new and fresh content, as well as some great sketches. The book is very well written and will leave you laughing for hours.

What I like about the book and the blog is that it is laugh out loud funny and completely honest. Jon is not afraid to make fun of himself and Christian culture. There are so many things that he puts out there in the open. Once he has done that you begin to think, “wow, I have done that before”, and just laugh at how ridiculous you actually are.

Jon believes in laughter and that God wants us to laugh. Which I honestly agree with wholeheartedly. For if we cannot laugh at ourselves of all people then there is something terribly wrong.

However, with all of the the humor that Jon throws at you it always has the ability to convict you in many ways.

I would recommend this book as a must read to anyone, Christian or not. I believe it paints a perfect picture of Christianity, which is a group of imperfect people saved by God who continually shows us endless love. The Bible states that we all have sinned, and to be able to constantly know that we have a Savior that has paid the ultimate price for that sin, and all we have to do is repent and accept Him as our Savior to get the reward to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. It cannot get much better than that, but as human beings we always seem to complicate things, and a lot of time all we can do is laugh at ourselves.

As a side note, if you ever get the opportunity to get to go and hear Jon speak definitely take advantage of it. I had the opportunity a while back and it was great.

Reasons You Should Get This Book:

• Relate – There will a lot of stuff Jon talks about in the book that you have don or can relater to in some way.
• Laughter – This book is filled with situations and thoughts that you cannot help but to laugh at.
• Honest - Jon is honest about a lot of things that Christian culture does not talk about.
• Conversation – It gives you countless topics for conversations. It could also be used as a small group book if you dare venture.
• Sketches – The drawings sketches that have been added as visual aids for the book are amazingly funny. I think all of his posted should have sketches with them. It would be great.
• “God will make you rich”

Congratulations to Jon on an awesome book, and new job. May doors continue to open for him.
