The Power of One Word

Michael Perkins over at his blog Untitled posted a one of his hand written posts, and it was just one simple word “Others”.  What a powerful word. As Christians others should be who we look to serve, lift up, and comfort. If we think of others, and care for them that will force us to chose the words that we speak wisely.

That got me to thinking about the power of words. How they can cause love, hate, racism, friendship, joy and sadness.

How many times have you said the wrong thing? Had something interpreted the wrong way? Probably as many times as I have…

That is why we should always choose our words wisely, and never speak while angry or out of frustration. Give yourself time to calm down, and gain perspective of the situation. See the situation from the other persons viewpoint.

This is some of the best advice that I could give to husbands, wives, and parents. Words can hurt. Choose them wisely.

Michael posted one word. Sometimes one word is all we need to change someone’s life, encourage someone, or resolve conflict.

Words do have power… to encourage or to discourage, life and death. As you have so wisely written, I hope we use our words to encourage others.

Both what is said and how it is said can create great joy and immense pain. I learn this again and again when dealing with my kids.

I agree Matt. My son has taught me so much about myself!

Love this idea. So very underestimated but so very true. Great job.

Great reminder Adam. God’s been working in my heart about this very thing… about being careful what I say, how I say it and being “slow to speak”.

BTW, new to your site here, but just subscribed, we seem to follow a lot of the same people on Twitter too. Looking forward to connecting with you!
