Things I Like – Technology

I have always like technology. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted the newest and coolest of gadgets. There is something about them that just fascinate me. I see one of those gleaming new toys and I immediately want one. Not because I need one, but for some reason I think I do.

I have always liked technology though. I have always wanted cool mp3 players, small techi digital cameras, the newest dvd payers and then Blue Ray players…. the list could go on and on. My lovely wife even knows this and even got me an iPad for Father’s Day this past year, and a couple of years ago got me an iPod with “I Love You” engraved on the back of it. She’s great!

I think technology is a great tool. It makes life so efficient sometimes, but I have to admit that sometimes it can make it a headache too.

It seems that another new piece of technology has caught my eye though. That would be the new recently released Mac Book Air from Apple. Darn you Steve Jobs you have done it again. This guy really knows how to put out products that people want. I even want one of the new Apple TV’s and I do not even need one.

The new Mac Book Air looks awesome though. The small size makes for great portability. My wife and I are going to have to get a new laptop pretty soon. Maybe this will be the one for us.

So until the next tech-gadget comes along I can sit and gawk at the new Mac Book Air.

Are you a tech-gadget junkie? What is your favorite piece of technology?

I love tech, too. I’ve been wanting an iPhone since they came out, but I’ve yet to make the switch ’cause they’re just so expensive. I could justify the one time expense up front for the phone itself, but I can’t justify the ongoing required data plan. It’s just not in my budget at the time.

The Mac Book Air looks pretty sweet, too. But that’s another one of those “do I really need it?” devices. I used to really need a laptop, and I took it everywhere (work, school, home, vacation…), but now that I’m out of seminary and into a full-time pastorate, a 4gb usb drive is more than enough (and fits in my pocket!).

I guess what I’m saying is that we all have to be good stewards of what God has given us and where He’s placed us. I would be thrilled if God put me in a position in the future where I could both afford and be able to justify the use for all the new cool technology, but I have to be patient and remind myself that cool gadgets will not complete my soul. Only Christ can do that.
