Portability is one thing that is very important to me. Whenever I purchase a new tech product I ask myself these two questions:
- Can this product consolidate two or more products I carry around?
- Will this product be easy to carry around day to day?
I think that as a blogger portability is important as well. I personally always want to have something with me that I can snap a photo with or jot down a little note at any time. That is why when it came to upgrading my cell phone I went with the Droid X (my thoughts on it). By purchasing it I was able to get a tool that allowed to not have to carry a small digital camera in my briefcase as well as a notepad, and Flip Video camera. The Droid took care of all of that from the digital camera and video camera to the Evernote app for note taking and easily syncing them between my phone / iPad / desktop.
What I Carry Around Daily:
- Phone – Droid X. It allows me to do away with a notebook, camera, and video camera.
- Breifcase – Currently looking for something a little more compact briefcase. The one that I currently carry around is almost 10 years old, and is from the time laptops where two inches thick. Any suggestions?
- iPad or Kindle – I carry either one of these instead of having to carry around hard copies of books. I love reading so e-readers are great. The iPad had more features, but when just doing reading I definitely like the Kindle. Less distractions! I use the e-readers to put all my reference books on so I can have them with me whenever I am in need of them while on the go. I think they are great tools.
So that is what I have on me on a daily basis. The next item that I am saving up to purchase is Mac Book Air. I think it looks to be the perfect ultra-portable laptop. After reading and seeing what professional bloggers John Saddington and Darren Rowse had to say about the product I believe that its portability and fit for bloggers is second to none. I currently use the iPad for blogging (WordPress App) on the go, but blogging form it can kind of be cumbersome, and is lacking a lot of features that could make the iPad a great blogging tool. I wish it where easier, but it is not.
Is portability important to you? Any tools that you would like to share?

Funny! I’m working on post about what I take to work with me every day too! I’ll be sure to link back here when it’s complete. I carry a lot more than you!
Cannot wait to read your post. I do not know why, but I find it interesting to see what people carry with them daily and how they manage it all. I also enjoy seeing people’s workspaces (i.e. Lifehacker’s Featured Workspace Segmaent).
Thanks,
Adam
