The recent surge in the popularity of the Twilight series and vampires in general has got me quite confused.
I thought vampires were demonic and creatures of the underworld having damned souls. Am I wrong about this? It seems though our society have gone crazy for them. They are in the movies in the Twilight, Blade, and Underworld films, on television in The Vampire Diaries and The Gates, and in books all over the place. Our culture has romanticized these mythical creatures and Christians have become okay with it. They have even jumped on the bandwagon. This can be seen through publisher WaterBrook Press that has published Thirsty by Tracey Bateman. Come on…. Are we as Christians selling out to make a buck off of this current craze.
Vampire writers and enthusiasts try to okay the following of vampire fiction. They claim that it is fantasy and for entertainment, and that the followers know that it is fiction. I have seen little kids at most three years of age that have seen vampire shows. Do they know that this is in fact fictitious? I don’t know, but I doubt it.
The devil can infuse himself into anything. I think that this is what is happening in this current vampire epidemic.
I agree with what Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church has to say on the subject below. I would very much suggest that you watch it if you have kids. It just confirms that they are under attack and they may not even know it.
Where do us as Christians and Christian parents draw the line?
