Wow! What an adventure!

Under the Overpass is a book about faith in action. Mike Yankowski is convicted one day while sitting in a Sunday service. Mike has this overwhelming feeling that he has been called to drop all he is doing and go and live with the homeless in order to truly understand them and their daily suffering. To see what homelessness looks like when you are not guaranteed a bed to sleep in at night or three meals a day.

After much counsel and guidance Mike and friend Sam embark on a five month journey that will change them forever. Through this book Mike and Sam take the reader on their travel through  six U.S. cities (Denver, Washington D.C., Portland,San Francisco, Phoenix, and San Diego) each bringing about its own obstacles. From fighting off rats to finding food and shelter Mike and Sam experience it all while  on their journey.

Mike really truly acted on his faith and the call from God. He put his faith into action. He was able learn the true meaning of the love of Christ and the true meaning of Christianity at its core.

This book really makes you look deep into your soul, and question youself. What would I do in these situations? Would I care for the homeless if they came into my church? I would hope to say I would.

After reading this book it will be tough to look at a homeless person the same again. Reading this book was such an enlightening experience to what the homeless have to go through on a daily basis just to survive. Just to know that that is someone’s parent or child is heartbreaking.

Under the Overpass is without a doubt the best book that I have read this year.
