What is God Looking For?

We as Christians we often times think it is our goal to attain perfection in the eyes of God. That until we reach perfection we will not be seen worthy.

I think that is a fault we have ingrained in us as human beings. We want to be perfect. We strive to have perfect looks, images, and the list could go on and on. The society we live in is built around this. Millionaires are made with offering promises to get you closer to it.

However, I do not think that is what our Father in Heaven is looking for at all. I think he knows we will fail. He knows we cannot reach perfection that is why he sent His son in Jesus. His son who would live a perfect live without sin, and take on our sin for us so we could have a relationship with Him. The sin that our Father knew we could not conquer on our own.

What God is looking for in us is transparency. The ability to find it within yourself to go to Him, broken and all, and say you cannot succeed without him. To say I am not perfect and I have flaws, but I am trying. To admit you fail, and to humble yourself enough to go to the foot of the Cross and ask for His forgiveness.

That is what God is looking for.

God knows there has been only been One perfect human to walk this Earth. All he wants from me and you is transparency.

Are you transparent with God?

The answer to your question in one word: sometimes. Depends on what I am trying to hide. Yeah, I know…you can’t. So may the correct answer is depends on what my guilt will allow me to expose. Good thoughts here Adam.

Really good thoughts Adam! This past weekend at the conference I heard a speaker say something that may fit this. He said “God will never ask you for what you don’t have, he only asks for what you have.” We can’t live the right life, we can’t do enough to pay Jesus back. But that’s not what he wants. He simply wants us to acknowledge him and be in relationship with him.

I try my best to be transparent with God. To understand that he only wants what I’ve got. And that’s enough for him.

I really like this post Adam!

Thanks Joseph. We can never repay him, but only try…so true!

There are many people that try to be perfect or I hear a lot of people say “I just want to be a good person”(I do not like this because one who truly knows God doesn’t want think as a good person but think about what God wants for them)but like you said that’s not what God wants. We need to do our best to be like Jesus and do what God wants for our life. Nice post!

Sometimes–I want to be and may as well be. He knows all about me anyway.

Sometimes…. like some have said before me, I’m grateful that He knows regardless…. :)

I used to not be, but I am now. If I can’t be honest with God, it is foolishness for he knows everything about me. I can come to him “confidently” for Jesus paid that price to give me that right.

I like that Moe. Thanks for sharing!

    Good points.

I don’t think we can ever underestimate the power of self deception. The sin nature is the part of us that really believes we can hide things from God. I believe the Word of God is a rudder that allows us to steer directly into Gods will. The Word combined with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit allows us to have an accurate biblical assessment of ourselves. Without this rudder we will be tossed hither and dither by the waves of self deception.

Along with transparency God also demands obedience. And as we know: obedience is greater than sacrifice.

    In Jesus Christ,

Very true. I like that verse that says…”God perfects himself in our weakness”.

This is something I mention to Him, everyday. It’s the only way.
