I enjoy taking notes. I take notes when I read, and I also like to jot down any good ideas that I may have (i.e. Christmas Lists, Blog Posts, etc.). For a long time I was a paper and pen guy. I would have my small Molskine with me wherever I went and would just jot down notes when needed. There really was no real organization to the notes. The notebook was just kind of a catch all. Keeping ideas organized was never easy to me this way.
Thanks technology for helping me with this situation!
I have been for a few years now a digital note taker, with one exception that I will get to a little later. I use Evernote to keep all of my notes organized in one place. With the ability to put tags on notes and to organize them in different notebook all of my notes are always so easy to find.
Also taking notes digitally gives me the ability to lighten my daily load of things that I carry around. Instead of having to have a bulky notebook in my briefcase for taking notes throughout the day all I have to do is carry around my Droid X with the Evernote app installed on it. This way any time that I have something that I need to take quick note of I can just pull up the app, type up the note, tag it and that is it. Then when I am ready to go into the note in more detail at the house all I have to do is pull up the note on my iPad and there is the noted synced ready to go. The same goes for if I wanted to edit the note at the office. I have the Evernote desktop application installed that allows me to edit notes as well as clip text from the web that I feel may be useful.
Here comes the exception….
That exception is church. I have not got up the nerve to pull out my cell phone and takes notes in the middle of a sermon. Oh, how I think it would be great to take my iPad to church with me and take notes in Evernote, while reading and highlighting scripture from the near perfect YouVersion Bible app. That is the only exception where I actually take notes with pen and paper these days.
So I am for the most part a digital note taker and I love taking advantage of the new technologies out there to make life work more efficient, and I think that note taking via Evernote is a very user friendly piece of software for note taking.
What type of note taker are you?

I used to be a moleskin person too. I still am for some things, although I stick with PlainText iPhone app now. It syncs with DropBox so all my notes are organized, simple, and in sync. Love it.
If only people weren’t so quick to judge, the iPad note taking in church would be incredible.
(Not saying I’m perfect and don’t judge people, wish I was.)
I’m an Evernoter too. I agree though…it’s tough to whip Evernote out at church…I’m pretty sure most folks would assume I’m playing Angry Birds.
I can usually get by when I take notes on my cell phone though…at least then people think I’m texting/tweeting or Youversioning…
Yea I have started using my phone a lot for sermon notes. And it always seems like the best ideas for possible blog posts hit me at church. #RANDOM
