What We Do Echoes for Eternity

Ben that writes over at Ben Sayin asked his readers to pick one of the quotes that he had listed on his blog and write their feelings about it.

The one that resonates with me was:

“What We do In Life Echoes for Eternity”

First off, Gladiator is one of my favorite movies of all time. If you have not seen it, shame on you. Go rent it!

The reason this means so much to me is because it makes me look at myself, and ask myself:

What are you doing to further the Kingdom of God, and impact the lives of the people who are around you?

The reason this comes to mind is that when I look back at my life I want to look back and know without a doubt that I have changed the lives of people around me. That I have impacted those around me for the better, and that I have exuded the Love of God on a daily basis.

If I have the ability to impact lives what I have do will carry on for years to come.

I look at my son. He is only two, but my actions that he picks up from me as he grows will most certainly impact his future and will most certainly impact his children and those around him down the road. If I can raise him to love others and share the love of God with those around him I feel that what I have done will echo for eternity. Hopefully what I instill in him will one day lead him to the foot of the Cross asking for his salvation and seal his eternity.

So when I saw this quote it made me think about what I am doing in peoples lives that will live on for eternity. Am I doing my best to show God’s love and grace to those around me that will resonant in them something they will want to pursue and could possibly change their lives and the people they may come into contact with?

When I look back I hope that I can say yes!

Does Gladiator make your top 10 favorite movies?

It not only makes the Top 10 is comes pretty close to being #1 but has to take a back seat to Back to the Future Trilogy and the LotR Trilogy. The part that gives me chills every time I watch it is “My name is Gladiator…” Oh man! That scene rocks! To see Commodus (have you ever seen his name pronounced differently and what it sounds like?) stunned is priceless. BTW Adam: we may have been conspiring today. I wrote this one: http://billgrandi.ovcf.org/wordpress/?p=5709 I know shameless promotion. Well done post. Keep being that example to your son.

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 :)

Great Post Adam! Gladiator is an awesome movie!

hmm, maybe. I actually don’t see many movies anymore. The #babychild kind of takes up a lot of time.

Probably. It was pretty sweet. I liked the part when he was riding the horse in front of all the troops. and when he was in the desert with that big gun.

My 2 year old has definitely slowed up my movie watching…
      :)

Yes–I believe it does. There’s a guy at church that looks a lot like him. I don’t mess with that guy.

    • Adam April 6, 2011 at 1:36 pm #

I would avoid him as well!

Let me see, violence, lions, great soundtrack and great quotes? Yeah, top 10 for sure. I loved it.

    • Adam April 6, 2011 at 1:38 pm #

Great soundtrack… I agree my friend!

That quote makes me tear up big time. Love the film, the direction, everything about it. Such a moving quote and yet so true to our lives each day

    Great stuff you all!

    • Adam April 6, 2011 at 1:38 pm #

      Thanks Matthew. It sure does.

One of the things I remember my grandfather always saying upon us asking him how he is doing, is “No regrets, how about you? Any?”

Loved Gladiator, but I’m so glad I didn’t have a son while watching it, else I’d be wrecked like I was while watching Man on Fire.

    • Ben April 6, 2011 at 7:46 am #

Oh, and pretty awesome you took the challenge and created a post on one of the quotes, this rocked!

      • Adam April 6, 2011 at 1:40 pm #

As and you shall receive my friend. I enjoyed it. Glad to help out.

    • Adam April 6, 2011 at 1:39 pm #

I have not had a chance to watch it since the birth of our son. I am sure i will be the same way.

I love your grandfathers question. Love it! Thanks for sharing.

No doubt about the meaning of that quote Adam. It’s nearly impossible to keep an eternal focus all the time, but trying to imagine forever during every little thing we do down here is super challenging. Nice post.

    • Adam April 6, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

      Thanks Clay.

It does not make my Top 10 (or Top 25). I am more of a Zoolander guy. Yeah, I went there.

When you were talking about your son and how he picks up your actions, I think for me, that raises one of the scariest issues of leadership: the organization reflect us, especially our flaws.

Great food for thought, thanks for sharing!

    • Adam April 6, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

      Thanks for stopping by Blane.

Zoolander is too funny. “Blue Steel”

  11. dustin April 6, 2011 at 3:09 pm #

Top 5 movie for me, for sure. Any given day it revolves between Gladiator, Tombstone and Tommy Boy.

    • Adam April 6, 2011 at 4:27 pm #

      Love Tombstone!

    Hey Adam,
Was referred to your blog from Bill’s latest post. I did love Gladiator, but I haven’t seen it in so long. Still though, it is a fantastic movie! It probably would make my Top 10 (have to think about that, though. I think Shawshank Redemption would be my number one…love that movie.

    • Adam April 8, 2011 at 8:03 am #

Shawshank Redemption is in my top 5. I own both of them and they are both great. Glad you came over to visit.

Thanks for stopping in and commenting. Greatly appreciated!

Gladiator is definitely in my Top 5. Live Free or Die Hard is up there too.

Great post, man. Keep it up.

    • Adam April 8, 2011 at 9:43 am #

      Thanks KC.

I enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard as well!
