What is the work environmet that you get your best work done in? Is it sitting in a home office or at a coffee shop? Do you prefer a certain setting?
There are so many different atmospheres that people like to work in. Just about all of the people I know work better in different environments.
Here are some of the different type of work environments that come to my mind:
- Quiet – An environment of solitude and no sounds. Absolute quietness is a must for these types. They work bed without the threat of distractions. These people usually work best in a library type environment or a quiet home office.
- Semi- Quiet – These types usually enjoy a little sound of white noise in the background but not so much that it is distracting. These types usually do their best work at coffee shop type environments.
- Music - I have found that there are two types that work with music playing. The first is the type that can be productive with any type of music playing on the background. From Jack Johnson to Metallica they will be fine. The second kind or the type that work with just instrumental music while that work. Usually to film scores.
- TV – This is the type of person that can work while watching their favorite television show. They have theability to focuson multiple things at the same time while still remaining productive.
- Family – This type of person is the type that has kids and refuses when this are home to be anywhere working, but where they are. This person usually works in intervals playing and watching the kids one minute and taking care of business the next.
So there is my list of the different types of work environments that people so regularly work in. Everyone is unique and prefers different settings.
Personally, I enjoy working with stuff going on around me whether it be the sound of a tv or music or even family. If it is quiet I cannot stand it. It makes it feel to much like work. You work all your life you might as well make it fun while you are doing it.
What type of work environment do you prefer?

Adam: I am not a multi-tasker so I have to be very careful about my work environment. If i am wanting to study or read with a purpose I have to have it quiet. Occasionally I can do classical music(no lyrics so I am not humming them along with the instrumental music). I prefer total quiet though. If I am reading for pleasure, I still prefer quiet but can take some interruptions but still no TV. I don’t do well where there are or is the possibility of distractions, like at a Panera Bread or similar venue. My mind wanders and my eye catches movement. I wonder if that is because I am a people-person and like to watch them. (I am not ADD). It is interesting though to hear about others.
I always find it interesting to hear how people work, and what settings cultivate the most inspiration!
Thanks for stopping in!
Adam,
I like working late night on my couch. For whatever reason, I find a lot of inspiration late at night when the house is all quiet. I find that if I am at a coffee shop I get easily distracted.
Sometimes my best work comes when I’m under intense pressure and time constraints. Of course…I try not to live in those moments since I don’t want to die in 10 years.
I know right.
I feel like I work the good under pressure, but like you said it is not good for us all the time!
